Clean Your Home Organically

Every small thing that we can do for the environment is important. After all it’s the air we breath, the water we drink and the land that we live off of. You don’t have to be an ardent supporter or activist to participate in using environmentally safe products at home. I’m certainly not an environmental activist, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to do something beneficial for the environment. Everyone participates in their own way, the key of course is in “participates.”

One very simple and effective way to start is to use environmentally safe clean products at home. I know, I know, you are probably saying to yourself “environmentally safe” equals more money. Not the case at all. I bet that I can show you several ways to make eco-safe products from things that you already have in your pantry or kitchen cabinets. I’m talking about inexpensive, easy to make, environmentally safe cleaning products that work as well, or in some cases better, than expensive and toxic chemicals.

You have to understand that I was once a non believer in some of this stuff. Frankly I though it was a lot of bunk. It wasn’t until my wife showed me some things that really opened my eyes about how to clean and sanitize our home, that I really started to take her seriously. I said a lot of “yes dears,” as I pretended to be interested in her various eco-safe, made at home concoctions for organic cleaning.

Not thinking of myself as an “environmentalist,” writing an article about ec0-friendly products would be the last thing I would ever do, however I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t observed it’s value. Who would have ever thought that a few simple household items would ever equate to eco-friendly cleaning products.

Using organic cleaners at home doesn’t mean that you have to go out and buy anything new. As I am sure that you are aware, there is a price to pay for eco-friendly products which doesn’t seem right or fair. However you can make your own from stuff that you already have, in most cases.

You can make a great all purpose cleaner for kitchen counters, cabinets, floors, stove tops, glass and chrome with a combination of distilled vinegar and water. This stuff really works and it’s one of the best glass and mirror cleaners I’ve ever used. You can even use it in the bathroom because vinegar is a natural disinfectant, so it can be used around the bowl and rim. It costs pennies to make and it’s highly effective.

It seems that in most households the kitchen is the main room. It’s the center of the household and as such it has a tendency to get dirtier than other parts of the home. In our house it seems that the counter tops are constantly getting dirty and need to be wiped down often. First of all using chemicals to clean kitchen counter tops is expensive and can be toxic. The vinegar and water solution is safe and effective for any kitchen surface including the refrigerator and microwave.

I was absolutely impressed with the results of some of the organic cleaning recipes we share on our blog below, I think you will be too.
